LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Lexington police are investigating a serious crash that shut down Russell Cave Road and Kees Road.

A car hit a house on the corner of Kees Road and Russell Cave around 6 a.m. Thursday.

Police said arriving officers found 58-year-old Juan Naranjo on the ground, who was suffering life-threatening injuries. The coroner was contacted a short time later.

Coroner Gary Ginn said the victim appeared to be a pedestrian who was struck before the car hit the building.

“I do see some marks from where the car came across the line there and came into the yard because the vehicle was obviously traveling inbound,” Ginn said. “The position the deceased was in, we know that he was thrown several feet.”

Officers said the driver, 30-year-old Kristopher Burden, fled on foot. Police confirmed the driver was later taken into custody and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, operating a vehicle with an expired license, no registration plates, and failure of owner to maintain required insurance.

One passenger was also found in the car. Police said that person had minor injuries.

The Lexington Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is still investigating the crash.
