LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Friday morning Lexington Catholic and Harrison will play for a berth in the KHSAA Softball state semifinals. These two are no strangers in the 2022 season.

LexCath won the previous two match-ups and it is the 7th straight postseason game for the Lady Knights where they have faced an opponent from earlier in the season.

Both LexCath and Harrison County had nerve-wracking late inning wins so getting on the scoreboard first and early is key says Lady Knight coach Emery Emmert.

“Especially with our pitching being so strong and our opponents knowing that we get into a lead early than they’re thinking, oh, wow now we’ve got to play from behind. How do we score with the (LexCath) defense and Abby Hammond out there (on the mound).

The 11th region champions rallied to beat Boyle County 2-1 in the opening by scoring two runs in the bottom of the 7th in their opening round.

Ava Emmert, Lady Knights’ third baseman, wants to jump out early on the Fillies.

“It’s really important and we’ve been like working on that and that’s gonna be our goal going to this next game because when we get pressure on the defense early, and we get on the board, it just makes you feel better because you can just add onto that.”
