Kentucky leads the country when it comes to lung cancer diagnosis rates and deaths, but one University of Kentucky doctor says there is more hope now than ever when it comes to screenings, treatment, and surviving. November is Lung Cancer Awareness month. Early detection is key when it comes to so many cancers, and now a simple screening is proving to be a link to hope when it comes to beating lung cancer in the Commonwealth.

This year 288,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. In the month of October WKYT has been shining a light on survivors, their stories, on the awareness of the disease and on hope. WKYT's Amber Philpott recently sat down with a Lexington woman who was in the middle of planning the best day of her life, when she got the worst news of her life. A recent Prevent Cancer Foundation survey of 2,000 women found that 49% of them, ages 40 and older, had not received their annual mammogram since March 2020. One Lexington breast radiology doctor says if you fall in that category, don't put it off any longer. In this month's Link to Hope, she says Breast Cancer Awareness month serves as an annual reminder to put their health first for many women.

For one Harrison County young woman in the fight of her life she is choosing positivity and using a hobby to still spread joy to others.
